Register as a Vendor
Meet Registration Requirements
All suppliers interested in doing business with the City of Omaha and Douglas County must register with the new online system to receive communications when bid events are issued. Registration is live and free through IonWave. Most purchasing is managed through Douglas County Purchasing for both Douglas County and the City of Omaha. Supplier Registration instructions are available for your reference.
Understand Quotes/Requests and Limits
- Quotes - The Purchasing Department may elect to obtain written quotes for some expenses under $50,000.
- Bids and Proposal Requests - The Purchasing Department is required to obtain formal written bids in special circumstances under $50,000 and for all expenses over that threshold.
There may be additional City Council approval requirements that apply after a bid is won; the business would be informed of that process when it applies.
Comply with City Insurance Requirements
Make sure your business is protected from accidents and liability; the City of Omaha requires that contractors obtain insurance coverage before working with the city. Business insurance is a great way to protect against unforeseen events and catastrophes. The type and amount of insurance coverage your business needs will depend on the type of work your business does. For more information on requirements, check the specific bid package and consult with a professional.
